Day One!

We got away at 9:00 and found a trouble free M25 so got to the Tunnel by 11:30 this got us on the 11:50 train (not the 12:50 we'd booked) and in Calais by 12:30, brilliant sevice, even when we were checked for explosives!! - a wand passed over the steering wheel.

We picked up the first toll road - all of which were empty compaired to the M25, outside Calais - all the way to just before Reimes (20 euros). We stopped on-route for brunch, Zannie had piailla, mussells, prawns the lot - just like on a UK motorway stop!!! I settled for ratatouille and rice - great coffee!

Total 302 (900) miles.

Reimes (the Champagne capital) is lovely, the Cathedral is EMORMOUS, especially at night with the flood lights. Had a great meal, both had a Salade Fermière, a glass of Champagne (and a Pepsi!) and the best Pannacota yet! Hotel is nice with WiFi, except it was off line till this morning.

Right! better get up - long day ahead - aiming for Como!!

(spellchecker is in French so bear with me!!!)

  1. Well done Roger and Suzanne. It does not seem that long ago when the idea to drive down came about (at the Highwayman). Have fun and drive safe.
