Cautiously Optimistic!

I hardly dare voice this, lest he starts going backwards again, but I think we've "turned the corner" and that Rog is really on the way to recovery. On Wednesday afternoon he was very much improved, a better colour and moving around much more easily. That night he was sick again, and he told the consultant he couldn't hack it anymore. He sunk right down and hit rock bottom. By the time I heard about this (the following afternoon) he was, however, on the way up again.

All the tubes, and all the stents and drains have been removed now, and he is forcing himself to eat and keep it down, which he managed to do last night, and slept longer than normal. I've been taking him in some good bacteria in the form of Actimel for the last couple of days. It can only be good for him.
Anyway! The oedema has gone (I like to think my massages were something to do with that) and the bowel has started working again.

Today, Friday he was having a good afternoon and they had dressed him in pyjamas instead of the usual hospital gown, so he looked the business!

Chatting with Mr. Shah today, he told us that he'd removed all the lymph nodes (30) in R's stomach as a precaution. He told me that he thought Roger was "a lovely man," so say all of us!

Oh! and the other big thing is his temperature is down and seems to be staying down, which means they've defeated the dreaded infection. Of course he now needs fattening up, as his bones are poking through what little flesh is left, but lots of TLC will soon put that right. He still needs to get rid of those hiccups though!

I took him in a photo of the first snows of the Winter on the mountains in Crete (happened on Monday) so he can focus on that.

All in all I'm feeling rather happy tonight.
Please, please let it last!!!

Suzanne

  1. Great news well done Roger. Just posted a long blog which seems to have dissapeared. Still you're well worth it Roger so I'll start again.
just keep up the good work and keep down the good bacteria (Actimel).
Suz you're doing a great job keeping us all informed....must be exausting. are the boys ok..hard for the also.
Have the physios started yet? Roger, keep off the bike but I would think weight lifting will be ok.
In fact I got a lot of leaves to rake up today so could sneak in and bring you back to give me a hand...the fresh air would be good. if you dont fancy it Suz can stand in for you if she wants.
S0....great stuff mate, long haul and you're getting there, keep it up, the lows will get shorter. You are a tenacious old devil and dont forget it.
Really looking forward to seeing you...we're missing you both and hopefully it wont be too long.
Good luck mate and Suz, thanks for the continued updates. xxxJohn and Pat

  2. Some good news at last! Well, that's a huge relief!! Let's hope the improvement continues and Roger's hiccups do go away eventually - before he becomes too attached to them?! Lots of love to both of you and hope to see you soon. Sally & Co. xxxx

  3. Great positive news at last! Lets hope the infection is rid of now. On a lighter note - I have heard that hiccups can occur after a general anesthetic (not sure if spelt right) - it only takes a year to get out of your system - but as Roger has gone under twice does that mean he has got them for two years!!!!!!!! (lets hope not)!
Give our love to Roger and keep strong! Vicky, Gary and kids. XXXX

Hopefully the hospital food isn't too bad,(I used to pay for it!! ) and Roger will start putting some weight back on. Make sure you look after your self too Zanne. Visiting can be extremmely exhausting.
    Catch up with you soon.

  7. I'm so glad and relieved to hear that Roger has turned the corner! It has to be a big relief to the whole family. Take him some good fresh fruit and vegs if he's allowed to have them. Even if the hospital food isn't bad it can't be that good!

    Love,
    Carole
